Excerpt from Monica's Essay:

"Although it was only in production from 1897 to 1909, Grueby Pottery produced my favorite works from the time period. The bulbous, full forms, combined with elements of plant life, and finished with matte glazes with depth and variation are what I find so intriguing about Grueby pots. As you can see with the Pumpkin Casserole series, the there is the overt reference to the natural pumpkin and gourd form. The pieces were thrown on the wheel, altered by pushing out from the inside to give it body, bulge, and ‘rinds’. Pots from Grueby Pottery were often simple forms thrown that were then hand altered and stylized. The glazes were chosen to compliment the form, so I chose simple glaze effects and natural colors."

Congratulations Monica!
