APPROXIMATELY 175 PIECES OF AMERICAN ART POTTERY STOLEN!
Stolen February 25, 2008
Between 3:15 P.M. on Monday, February 25, 2008, and 8:30 A.M. on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, approximately 175 pieces of American Art Pottery were stolen from Belhorn Auction Services, LLC in the Columbus suburb of Hilliard, Ohio. Also stolen was a cargo trailer in which the pottery was loaded, which was secured and locked at Belhorn Auctions’ office.
Pottery stolen includes various examples of Weller, Roseville, Rookwood, Owens, Van Briggle, Hampshire, Pillin, Fulper as well as others. Also stolen was an exhibit of fake and reproduction pottery assembled by the American Art Pottery Association for educational and presentation purposes. The trailer is an unmarked, white American Hauler cargo trailer with fold-down rear ramp and a system of shelving on the inside.
“We are working closely with law enforcement and our property management company to review security tapes covering the area during the time of the theft,” said Belhorn Auction Services, LLC President Greg Belhorn. “All consignors affected by this incident are fully covered and will be reimbursed for any financial loss. However, I do remain hopeful that the items will be recovered.”
Nearly all of the stolen pieces were slated for the American Art Pottery Association’s 2008 Auction to be held in conjunction with the organization’s Annual Convention on April 23-27, 2008, in the Greater Philadelphia area. The full commission and buyer’s premium generated from the auction serve as an important revenue source from the American Art Pottery Association. Belhorn Auction Services, LLC donates its time and resources to conduct this auction, which benefits the Association and its endeavors.
“While nothing can replace these items, the auction will proceed as planned with an outstanding selection of pottery.” Belhorn further added, “My staff and I will do everything within our power to ensure the Association has one of the best auctions ever held at its Conventions.” Pieces from Belhorn’s private collection will be added to the auction to help replace some of the rare and unique items taken in this incident.
A general list and photos of the stolen pottery will be made available at Belhorn Auction Services, LLC’s website at www.belhorn.com. Anyone with information regarding this incident or who is approached by an individual with pottery for sale matching the description of stolen items should contact the Hilliard (Ohio) Police Department at (614) 876-7321 or Belhorn Auction Services, LLC at (614) 921-9441. A reward is being offered for any information leading to the recovery of the stolen property.

VIKTOR SCHRECKENGOST JAZZ PLATE STOLEN!

Here is the image of the actual New Yorker Jazz plate that was stolen over the weekend. The serial number is on the bottom of the plate, black text on a small white label reading "sn3568". Also, Viktor signed the piece on the bottom with a black marker with his full name, "Viktor Schreckengost." The plate is approximately 11.5" in diameter and 1.25" tall.

Stolen April 17, 2006
Amphora Vase stolen from Alex Raskin who owns a shop in Savannah, GA. It was taken within the past year by a "large handsome couple in a white van with Polk County, FL, license plates. Alex feels the piece was sold in the Tampa, Sarasota, Bradenton area. The piece is very identifiable and beautiful. Any info, please contact Vivien Cord at Cordshows@aol.com.

"Hello, on the 19th of March at Richmond Big Flea my husband happened to come into our booth and noticed that a Rookwood "Peacock Feather" Vase in matte blue was stolen, and what was so maddening he had just purchased it the weekend before!
