A Gamble on Art on the ‘Redneck Riviera’
May Not Be Paying Off

ATLANTA — When the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art opened in November in Biloxi, Miss., residents were not sure what to make of the quirky little museum dedicated to an eccentric Mississippi potter and designed by the architect Frank Gehry.

Some loved it. Some hated it. And plenty of people along the stretch of the Gulf Coast often called the Redneck Riviera wondered if there was room for high art and architecture amid the casinos and fishing charters.
