Fake Nicodemus

 Fake Nicodemus

This photograph is of a FAKE Unmarked Nicodemus Robin.  An authentic Nicodemus Robin would be in red clay with the clay showing through a light glazing in some areas.  The fake also shows poor coloration of the glaze in the breast area.

1/5/04: We received a note from a reader (auntie@columbus.rr.com), which states, "Although maybe the fakes have a glazed beak they are nothing like the actual beak color, but the authentic does come with a glazed beak. I have an authentic Robin.  It is marked and also has the original sticker.  I have collected Chester Nicodemus for many years and there is no doubt this is authentic.  My Robin has a yellow/ gold glazed beak with the red clay showing through slightly. The eyes are also a glaze with the rest being the bisque finish The breast color is the actual red clay, there is no glaze.  There is also no glaze on the other parts of the body except the eyes and beak. It is an "underglaze" or colored clay (black) applied over the base red clay."
